Performing poetry can be child’s play

A nice and inspiring article. “Poet Michael Rosen, the London Grid for Learning and the Booktrust have joined forces to create a website where young people can upload videos of their poetry recitals and check out the performances put on by their peers…”

The Innovators 7 – David Gilmour

Another great article from Merlin John Online about innovative teachers. This article particularly highlights ICT in schools, and allowing it to be embraced and used innovatively, especially there approach to Edubuzz has been very successful. A good read.

A great article about the potential for social media usage within schools, how it encourages collaboration and communication, and real-time feedback, and much more!

The Innovators 5 – Jaye Richards

A great article from an inspiring woman. It also shows through using an online learning/exchange platform, a very large intranet (Glow), children can benefit from exchanging and networking with other schools as well as within their own, learning at their pace. A positive step forward, but she also highlights the negatives that are most common all around the UK, schools and teachers finding it difficult embracing ICT cross-curricular, only strengthening the cause to increase training for teachers & schools. One thing Wroxham can agree with what she says is “…education needs to be turned right on its head – it’s time for bottom-up rather than top-down”. Worth a read!

KIDO’Z

“The KIDO’Z Kid’s Web Environment is the safe, easy and fun way for young kids to surf their favorite sites, watch videos, play games, send emails, create and communicate without knowing how to read and write!” – This piece of software looks great, maybe we can trial it with some of the younger children in school, and also get the parents involved. I love the idea of it, especially when so may parents are still wary of the internet for their younger children.

“Creating slideshows can be an excellent way for students to summarize their learning, share their what they’ve learned, and to share their ideas. The Great Learnover

A twitcam based inter-school exchange of thoughts about learning in the 21st Century.  An event to take place in Feb 2010, run by Stephen Heppell, they are still looking for schools to sign. This will be over 24 hours, and for 48 schools – one scheduled for each half hour using GMT in as many different countries, using video cameras and each school has a chance to show their school to everyone else. Looks like a great idea, what do you think??
